Caltec Joins Race the Sun Brecon Beacons

June 2016

Caltec’s Product Support Manager, Simon Brock, took part in Race the Sun Brecon Beacons challenge at the weekend, raising funds for Action Medical Research (http://www.action.org.uk/), a charity funding a wide range of research which covers many different conditions affecting pregnancy, babies, children and young people. The race saw 103 teams of four compete over a 56 mile course, involving 47 miles of on- and off-road cycling, eight miles up and down three peaks, including Pen y Fan (2907ft or 890m above sea level) and 1.5 miles canoeing on Pontsticill Reservoir.

Setting off at one minute intervals starting at 6am, teams had to work together to make the best time possible over the course.

Simon’s team worked hard to gain at least a top four finish in each of the four segments, and once ‘transitions’ between each were taken into account the ‘Mountaineers’ were really pleased to come away with the trophy for fastest team overall, with a total time of 6 hrs 4 minutes for the course. With each team raising a minimum of £2000 sponsorship, the event raised over £200,000 for the charity, with the Mountaineers (https://www.action.org.uk/sponsor/mountaineers) currently on £2260.
